Welwyn Preserve County Park
The preserve is in Glen Cove, on the North Shore of Long Island. About 1 hour by car form New York City. Welwyn Preserve was originally Welwyn Estate, the estate of the industrialist Harold I. Pratt (built in 1906). The main house, Welwyn, was one of the Gold Coast Mansions. The trails were poorly maintained and there are no trail markings with many abandoned houses and numerous trees are spray painted. You will get a sense of being in the woods. There is a paved path off of the parking lot that will take you down to the beach.
